Each day is a gift...some I want to return, but all of them I'm thankful for.

First Day of Kindergarden

For years I've been debating where to send Jordan to school. I started feeling the panic of this decision about 1 week after we got her...right about the time she cut her first tooth. Some people may think I need therapy...I just like to think of myself as a planner. Anyway, when it comes to her eduction, I've agonized, I've prayed, I've asked advice from anyone who can breathe. After waffling around like a fish on the shore, we finally decided that we would home school for Kindergarden. Whew! Decision made. The amazing thing is once we made that decision, there has been nothing but peace, joy and excitement in our house.

This week marked the official commencement of Home School. I taught High School for many years but I've never been SOOOOO excited for a "first day". I used to have a reoccuring dream (nightmare really) that involved all the parents at back to school night where I was actually supposed to teach the first class but didn't know it until they walked in. No books, not enough desks, a room full of parents giving the look...you know the one. I would have this dream (in different variations) for about a month before the first day of school. This year, I'm happy to say I didn't have one single bad dream and so far, Jordan and I are having an absolute blast! I'm sure there will be days that are not so fun, but for now I can't imagine anything I'd rather be doing. This. Is. FUN! The night before the first day, I was actually so excited I had trouble sleeping. How crazy is that? I'm so thrilled I'm able to stay at home and do this...never thought I'd be a home school mom :-) Besides, school at home means Jordan can wear Ballet slippers all day long...I've discovered this is important to her. Can't say I've had any desire to wear ballet slippers...

Kind of a funny sidenote...check out Jordan's upper lip. Do you see the mustache? Apparently she sucked her lip as hard as she could to the top of a drink bottle. So hard that she actually gave herself a hickie...on her upper lip. I didn't even know it was possible. Note to self: If you ever find yourself sticking your upper lip into your drink bottle, don't suck too hard.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news . . . but kindergarten is spelled with a "t". : )

  2. On second thought, maybe it's okay to teach her to spell a few words wrong . . . pay backs for that body fat comment. : )

In the back of my head, I knew there would be several [dozen] reasons if you weren't writing on here... but here we are! I love your writing and keeping up with the fam.

So excited for you and Jordan... wonder how different this year will be for you all!! And ballet slippers, tell her I TOTALLY understand...

  4. Beth, I wondered about the spelling of Kindergarten and was going to look it up...then I didn't! If I couold figure out how to edit this post I would change it but I still haven't got blogspot figured out yet. I should let Jordan try...she'd probably figure it out in about 30 seconds.

  5. Ha! Don't change it...it matches what you wrote on the chalk board! :) (But if you did want to edit a post, go to your 'dashboard' and next to the 'new post' button there is a smaller one that says 'edit posts'. Click that, make your changes and publish again. Easy-peasy.)

Happy homeschooling to you! Glad that you're enjoying it. There are so many amazing benefits. We'll have to plan some field trips together this year. :)

  7. Kelly, Beth just knows how to spell so well from all her games of Scrabble with Jay. She has to be on top of it or he'll beat her, LOL

Hey, is this the room where you had to take the windows out to move your stuff in, hehe. Good memories of your posts from the past. Always loved hearing about the goings on at your place.

Can't believe that Jordan is ready for kindergarten. What a wonderful experience for the two of you. Hats off to you for sure! I often wonder if I had the chance today if I would be homeschooling as well.

Wishing you a fun and memory filled year of school.
