Each day is a gift...some I want to return, but all of them I'm thankful for.

Bits of My Weekend Volume 4

Kicked off the weekend with some good friends. Cookout and swimming, what a great theme for summer!

The best way to start off any day...chocolate croissants. Thanks to my sister-in-law Lisa for the yummy recipe! This is sure to be a re-occuring breakfast in our house. Jon couldn't figure out why I gave the kids "dessert" for breakfast but really...cinnomon rolls, monkey bread, pancakes...why not chocolate croissants? The line between breakfast and dessert is a very blurry line indeed.

The kids made monster trucks at the lowe's building class. Jordan is getting pretty good with a hammer. Matthew...well, lets just say that when he picks up a hammer, you want to stand back. Way back.

We ended the weekend the way we started it...cookout and swimming. This time with Grammy and Grandad. Matthew got a boatdriving lesson. But there are no pictures since I had to hold on for dear life...letting go long enough to take a picture didn't seem prudent. He kept yelling, "FASTER! FASTER!" and making sharp turns. I'm already telling him to save for his insurance costs...they'll be high...and with good reason.
Jordan did a little fishing. This is actually the first fish she had caught totally by herself. Usually she'll hold the pole for about 1 minute and then hand it off to Jon, returning only when there's something to real in. I can relate to that type of fishing. She was quite proud of herself so were we until she got the hook stuck in Matthew's hand. oops.

Our biggest event of the weekend was the purchase of a camper. Yes, a camper. Those of you who know me well are now wondering if the chocolate croissants were laced with any illegal substances. I simply don't camp. However, for quite awhile Jon and I have been discussing what activities and precedents we want to set with the kids and camping is pretty much top of the list for a wide variety of reasons. So....Jon has gone to several auctions lately and came home with this. I am SO excited. So are the kids. We go out and explore in the camper several times a day. I know some people may not consider this "real" camping...after all, there are mattresses, running water and air conditioning involved. But, it is camping that I can totally buy into!
I can rough it for a good reason (like a mission trip) but vacation??? I don't think so.

So here's my problem, we have a camper, and I've never really camped. Clueless here. I'm looking for any advice from those of you who have BTDT (been there done that). How can I prepare so that the camping outing is the best possible experience? HELP!

  1. Love it! You bought a camper!! Just curious - what will your boat-loving neighbors say about this one? You haven't received any mysterious or anonymous letters in the mail yet, have you? :)

  3. oh yes! That is my kind of camping too..I'm not interested in the tent and out in the wilderness kind give me my own bed and kitchen!

Actually I can give you a lot of advice on this type of camping...and recommend a lot of great blog areas that let you know all the important stuff like not overloading your trailer so you blow tires while driving down the road..or taking off your TV antenna because you forgot to put it down..My Dad reads them almost daily. And if you haven't seen the movie RV, you should totally watch it lol it'll prepare you for some of the things to avoid doing and the kinds of people you'll meet lol I'm totally for real!
